Precision and control for excellent food labels
The food product labels are required to inform the consumer clearly and with maximum transparency. However, in such a competitive sector, it is also crucial to engage those who are seeing a packaged food label for the first time, whether on a jar, a bottle, or any other type of container. This is where print configuration comes into play, allowing for the identification of optimal solutions for each company. With our food label printing, we cater to individual needs through a professional and qualified service: we provide customised and high-quality adhesive food labels.
Configure your food label printing
Customising the print of food product labels is very simple. Our configurator provides all necessary parameters, from the format to the most exclusive embellishments: you can create food labels that are simple or sophisticated, applicable to containers of any type of food, including organic, and make choices based on your graphic project and style. Unlike labels that come into direct contact with food, which only need to include mandatory information, labels for packaged foods require a more complex design and targeted customisation, aimed at emotionally engaging the person. In the LabelDoo configurator, you also have the option to have your file checked by our professionals: with this service, you can be sure that your graphic design meets all the technical requirements for printing high-quality food labels. Start configuring your food product labels now!
Food product labels must use transparent communication. This is the primary function of an adhesive label, especially for the food sector, where, in addition to complying with strict regulations, it is necessary to present the information in a simple way to facilitate reading and understanding by consumers. Precision and attention must be maintained at every stage of creation, including during label production. The quality of the printing process affects the final appearance of the adhesive labels and, consequently, how they are interpreted and perceived by the individual.
At every step of our production process, we conduct label checks, an inspection that is part of our standard practice and not an additional service, ensuring excellent results for all types of food labels. We inspect each label individually with a 4K camera to correct any inaccuracies and provide a perfect roll. Each food label will be excellent, ready to be applied to its container.
Easy-to-apply food labels
In the printing of our labels, including food labels, we pay special attention to the roll. This is because roll configuration is important during label application, whether done manually or automatically. With our experience in this sector and deep understanding of companies' needs, we know that standard rolls can create problems, complicating label application and slowing down the workflow. Like all other labels, adhesive food labels can be applied either by hand or by a label applicator machine. Many companies, especially larger ones, use the latter method, which requires rolls suitable for the machine and customisable. In our configurator, you can specify the type of winding, exit direction, and the maximum internal and external diameter of the roll, resulting in a perfect roll to insert into the label applicator: you can apply your food labels to product containers with complete ease and precision.
Many printing materials, one for each food label
Choosing the printing material is crucial for any adhesive label. In the food sector, the types of products are many, and it is essential to start with this aspect: identify the item to be labelled. You can do this on the page dedicated to our printing materials, where we offer the possibility to browse by product type. Once identified, you can see the recommended paper substrates.
The printing materials for food products include:- natural and premium papers, including exclusive paper supports like Tintoretto Gesso, Vergata, or Martellata, and eco-friendly papers such as Recycled Birch and Eden Garden;
- materials with a smooth finish, which include coated and glossy coated papers and various types of plastic supports, such as polypropylene.
To identify the suitable material, consider the aesthetic result you want to achieve, the type of container to which the label will be applied, and its intended use. Depending on the product, food labels must be durable over time and resistant to external agents such as moisture or oil stains. The best choice is always the right compromise between these needs: with one of our printing materials, your food labels will be visually appealing, durable, and resistant.
Do you have multiple lines of a food product? Customise the label with graphic variants
Among the options in our configurator, one highly appreciated by food producers is graphic variants. This parameter is available according to quantities and deserves further exploration. Graphic variants are an excellent solution for a common need among many companies, which is to print the same label in multiple graphic versions. Instead of customising and ordering each label individually, with our option, you can configure all variants in a single step and specify a custom quantity for each. Variants, which differ only in graphics and not in other parameters, allow you to optimise time and costs because, with a single configuration and order, you can obtain many versions of your label. This option is very popular among our clients, especially those who print labels for food products. If you also need to order adhesive food labels in multiple graphic versions, choose the variants: you will receive all your labels at once!
FAQ
Food Labels: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are food labels?
Food labelling requires a distinction. These labels are not all the same: in our case, we are talking about labels for food products inside containers, not in direct contact. They are the most common and are applied to packaging, jars, bottles, cans, and tins; regardless of the type of support, these labels do not come into direct contact with the food.
However, they are required to provide valuable information about the food they represent. Although there is no risk of food contamination, it is still important that these food product labels are durable, resistant, and, above all, legible and clear. It is crucial to rely on high-quality printing that ensures these characteristics for food labels.
-
What must be included on food product labels?
The content of food labels can vary depending on the type of product and the specific regulations applicable. For example, a wine label must adhere to different requirements compared to a jam label. However, one can list common elements that should be present on any food label, always ensuring to consult the relevant guidelines and regulations:
- Product name, must be clear and accurately describe the food to help consumers identify it immediately.
- List of ingredients, to be listed in descending order of weight, from the most abundant to the least. Allergens present should be highlighted, for example in bold, to help those with food intolerances or allergies quickly identify potential risks.
- Net quantity of the product, expressed in grams, kilograms, millilitres, or litres depending on the type of food. This is important for allowing consumers to easily compare similar products.
- Expiration date or minimum shelf life, the latter is used mainly for less perishable products, such as pasta or preserves, and indicates until when the product maintains its optimal characteristics.
- Origin, mandatory especially for certain food products.
- Manufacturer and/or distributor details, important for greater transparency. The label should generally include the name or business name and address of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor.
- Nutritional values, generally include data such as energy (calories), fats (including saturated fatty acids), carbohydrates (including sugars), proteins, and salt. These are presented in a dedicated table and expressed per 100 grams or millilitres of product.
-
Compliance indications, if the food product is certified organic, DOP, IGP, or has other quality certifications, these must be clearly indicated.
Additionally, all additional and optional information that could significantly impact the perception of the food's quality should not be underestimated. Statements such as "no additives" or "handcrafted product," as well as any recognitions the item may have received, are very strong purchase drivers in the food sector.
-
How to create labels for food products?
To create a food label, you first need to design the graphic, taking into account all the print adjustments. The file should include bleed, the correct font sizes, and elements related to any embellishments. Follow our suggestions to correctly create the file for your food labels.
Once the graphic design is complete, you can proceed with customising the print. You can choose your label parameters in our configurator, one at a time, very simply:
- Format, available as rectangular, circular, oval, custom, or front-and-back.
- Dimensions, you need to specify the width and height of your label, starting from a minimum of 20 mm and not exceeding a maximum of 308 mm.
- Material, there is an "info paper" section next to the option which you can consult before choosing the right substrate.
- Application, you need to indicate whether it will be manual or with a label applicator. For the latter, you can also configure the roll of labels.
- Finishes, you can choose between varnishing and laminating (one of these is highly recommended), standard hot stamping, 3D foil stamping, 3D screen printing, internal element removal, die-cutting (specify if laser or mechanical).
- Quantity, if you need multiple graphic versions of your label, you can indicate this here, specifying the number of variants and the quantity of labels for each.
- File check, if you want our technicians to review your file, correcting and fixing any errors, you can select this service for a cost of €5.
- Instructions, at this point you can download the template to start creating the label graphically and read the file guidelines.
Once all parameters are set, you will immediately see the cost estimate for your food product labels.
-
How much does it cost to print food labels?
The printing cost can vary depending on several factors. It is a necessary investment for companies as labels play a crucial role for food products. If you need to optimise your budget, understanding what impacts the price of your food labels can be helpful.
Consider the following elements:
- label printing material;
- shape;
- finishes;
- quantity;
- delivery date;
- included and excluded services.
It is always possible to find the right balance between aesthetic needs, functionality, and price. All without compromising the print quality and appearance of your food labels.
