Oil Labels

Print personalised adhesive oil labels

Oil labels are among the most commonplace, yet at the same time meticulous to produce due to the high competitiveness of the industry. The label expresses the identity of the product, and in this case, we are almost always referring to high-quality items such as extra virgin olive oil. When encountering a bottle of extra virgin olive oil for the first time, the consumer can perceive its value through its adhesive label while also gaining an insight into the company's production philosophy. To design and print successful oil labels, it is essential to align the design and printing choices with both the brand and the product.

FAQ

Oil Labels: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Olive oil labels must, of course, provide essential information and comply with current regulations. Before focusing on appealing content, it is crucial to consider all the mandatory elements that must be included on the label. This will provide an overall view of the final result, helping to design the label clearly and evenly, distributing the content across the available space.

Generally, the key information to be included on olive oil labels is:

    • Product name, the first element that captures attention. It can be a distinctive name if you want to characterise and distinguish your olive oil, a simple name like “extra virgin olive oil”, or something more evocative.
    • Oil type, such as extra virgin, virgin, olive oil, and similar labels, specifying the type of product. This information is crucial for consumers as it indicates the quality and characteristics of the product.
    • Origin, referring to the variety of olives or the production area of the oil. An olive oil label that specifies a precise geographical origin, such as "made in Italy" or "PDO", can add significant value to the product.
    • Harvest year, which can be particularly important for high-quality oils.
    • Volume and net weight, specifying the volume of oil contained in the bottle, usually in litres or millilitres.
    • Ingredients, although pure olive oil does not have other ingredients, it is important to declare the absence of additives, if applicable. For flavoured oils, the additional ingredients must be listed.
    • Nutritional values, to be included in a dedicated table indicating calories, fats, saturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, proteins, and other values required by law.
    • Expiry date or minimum storage period, indicating the date by which the oil retains its best properties. The phrase "best before" is usually used.
    • Legal information, any mandatory legal statements, such as the batch number, the producer’s or packer’s name and address, and the compliance mark with food safety standards.

Additional content worth including on olive oil labels includes product storage instructions and any quality certifications, which attest to the oil's excellence.

The additional information, along with the mandatory data, helps to communicate the quality and uniqueness of the oil to consumers. A well-designed label from this perspective can make a difference in how the oil is perceived in the market.

  • Creating olive oil labels requires design and planning expertise. A key point is starting with the brand, to which any adhesive label should always remain faithful. With a clear vision of what the label should communicate, you can design it, even allowing room for creativity. You can play with text, fonts, colours, and images, or leave more space for the printing material if it's particularly unique; in any case, it is important that the olive oil label file is correctly prepared and sent for printing. For advice on how to properly create a document, you can read our guidelines, which contain plenty of technical information about the file's specifications.

Once the graphic design is completed, you can create your olive oil bottle label using our configurator. No special skills are required in this case, as the process is straightforward and easy. Start by configuring:

    Format: you can choose between classic shapes such as rectangular, circular, oval, customised shapes, or front and back labels;

Dimensions: simply set the width and height of the olive oil label, remembering to respect a minimum of 20mm and a maximum of 308mm.

Then, choose the printing material and the application method (manual or with a labelling machine). Finally, select embellishments and quantities. We remind you that to have a durable and resistant olive oil label, it is always recommended to opt for lamination or varnishing, depending on the material chosen for your label.

  • As mentioned, indicating the label’s size is very simple: in our configurator, you just need to enter the width and height. But how do you determine the correct size?

This parameter is indeed the first one to consider when creating the olive oil label. Here are a few factors to consider when choosing the size for your olive oil bottle label:

    • Type and shape of the bottle, one of the first things to consider when determining the correct measurements. Cylindrical, rectangular, or shaped bottles require different label sizes. Measure the height and circumference of the bottle to establish a starting point for the label’s dimensions.
    • Label position, decide whether the label will be applied only to the front, whether to include a back label, or to use a wrap-around label. A front label can be smaller, highlighting the brand and product name, while a back label can provide detailed information. Wrap-around labels cover a larger portion of the bottle, allowing more information to be included in a single space.
    • Balance between aesthetics and practicality, label size affects the balance between aesthetics and functionality. A label that is too large might cover the olive bottle excessively, hiding the colour and appearance of the product, which are often important selling points. Conversely, a label that is too small may not have enough space for all the necessary information.
    • Content, ensure the label has enough space to include mandatory information, such as the product name, origin, nutritional values, and legal information. This will help determine the optimal height and width.

Before printing your olive oil labels, consider creating some prototypes. You can order them through our print trial, which allows you to receive up to 5 reproductions of your label. This way, you can try applying the olive oil labels to the bottle and assess which size is most suitable.

Our print trial is free: the amount spent on the trial will be refunded via a discount voucher sent by email, to be used when you confirm your label order.
