Engaging and distinctive honey labels
A honey label aims to present and add value to an exclusive product, which often embodies a reputable business philosophy. It is the first point of contact with the consumer, who is not yet able to assess the intrinsic quality of the honey; upon first seeing the jar, the person will rely on perceived quality to make their choice. The task of conveying this value effectively is entrusted to the honey adhesive label. Enhancing honey with the label means telling its story, how it was produced, its origins, and the bee farming model, expressing all those values that go beyond the organoleptic qualities of the honey. For such products, it is also important not to overlook environmental aspects. It would be a shame not to give appropriate importance on the label to a zero-kilometre production or to organic or biodynamic methods. These are crucial elements that can make a significant difference on a honey label. The richness of variety is also greatly appreciated among honey enthusiasts and is a point in favour of traditional beekeepers; indeed, it is unlikely to find the most unusual flavours in mass distribution. For producers offering not just classic honey but also acacia, eucalyptus, chestnut honey, and so forth, creating labels for all types of honey will be straightforward. Simply configure the honey labels through our graphic variants.
Honey labels printed in multiple versions
Several years ago, we introduced graphic variants as an innovative solution to configure multiple versions of an adhesive label, differing only in design. This option is currently one of our customers’ most appreciated. With graphic variants, a beekeeper can customise all their honey labels with a single order. This means that if they need to print 2000 acacia honey labels, 1000 wildflower honey labels, and 1500 chestnut honey labels, they can do so with a single configuration, and the cost will relate to the total number of labels. Placing a single order for 4500 honey labels will obviously be much more advantageous than three separate orders. Additionally, as graphic variants can be customised in quantities, it is possible to specify a number of labels tailored for each version. To use graphic variants, it is essential that all honey labels to be printed differ only in design; other parameters, such as printing material, finishes, and format, remain the same.
Tips for custom honey labels
Through customisation, each honey label can become a powerful marketing tool for the producer. By customising the design and print, tailored results can be achieved that create differentiation. There are many ways and options for creating a customised honey label; choices are related to the brand and product identity, and each production entity will refer to these. However, there are some common points for a product like honey, especially if produced artisanally. For example, one might aim for a thematic graphic design with images or elements that evoke the origin or seasons. Colour palettes that recall the naturalness of honey, such as golden, amber, green, and brown tones, traditional fonts, and Eco-friendly printing materials can be used. An excellent idea is also to highlight any certifications or quality guarantees, aspects that significantly enhance the value of honey on the label. With printing, it is possible to create customised honey labels by intervening on the most important graphic elements, such as enhancing a quality mark or illuminating content with golden tones through hot stamping. Finally, but no less important, are the printing supports, which can significantly contribute to the customisation of honey labels.
Printing materials for honey labels
There are many materials for printing honey labels. They are available on the page of supports for food product labelling such as honey, preserves, jams, pasta, etc. Some papers are particularly suitable for labels that need to convey an authentic and natural appearance of the product or its organic nature, as is often the case for honey adhesive labels. Other materials are suited for more minimal and contemporary labels, and others for versatile, practical, and more economical labels.
Among the printing materials for honey labels, we have:
- Eco-friendly papers such as Recycled Birch and Eden Garden. Both are FSC certified and guarantee an excellent, distinctive final result. Birch is a recycled paper suitable for achieving a rustic and organic effect; Eden Garden, derived from dried grass fibres, ensures the honey label has a traditional appearance, highlighting the artisanal and natural qualities of the product.
- Premium papers like Tintoretto, Vergata, Laid Beige, Martellata, Constellation, and Classic uncoated. These are elegant materials with textured surfaces that effectively communicate the product’s value, especially for high-quality and high-price range products.
- Smooth finish materials that distinguish between paper supports, such as Coated Paper, and laminated supports, like Polypropylene. They ensure excellent results with four-colour printing and a good price compromise.
To achieve excellent honey labels from every perspective, remember to always apply a finish that protects the adhesive label and ensures its durability over time. Depending on the chosen material, printing a honey label is strongly recommended to use UV coating or lamination.
FAQ
Honey Labels: Frequently Asked Questions
-
What should be written on honey labels?
In addition to clearly indicating the product's content, honey labels must include precise data and information as required by regulations, which may vary by country but generally aim to ensure transparency and food safety. Alongside mandatory information, a honey adhesive label can also include text, symbols, or images that enhance the product's appeal to the consumer.
Information typically required on honey labels includes:
- Sales denomination, i.e., the name of the product (honey), which can be further specified with the type of honey, such as “acacia”, “wildflower”, etc.
- Net weight, expressed in grams or kilograms.
- Production batch, which helps identify the group of products and is essential for recalls or safety checks. The batch must be clearly stated on the label.
- Geographic origin, i.e., the country or countries where the honey was collected.
- Producer details, including name, business name, address, and information necessary for honey traceability.
- Expiry date or minimum shelf life, which must be indicated even though honey has a very long shelf life.
- Nutritional information, related to 100 grams of product and written clearly and legibly.
- Storage instructions, a very useful suggestion to help the consumer store the honey properly and preserve its quality.
Additional content that enhances the honey and fosters a positive perception of its quality includes certifications, production methods, and any exclusive features highlighting the product's uniqueness and strengths.

How to create honey labels?
To create clear, compliant, and aesthetically appealing honey labels, it is crucial to start with proper graphic design. During this phase, alongside creating a suitable design in line with the brand, attention must be paid to how the file is prepared. The accuracy of the file is fundamental for properly printing the honey labels.
To create the labels, start by producing a graphic file that meets printing criteria, paying attention to elements such as resolution, format, colour space, bleed, and margins, among others. For guidance, you can refer to our guide on creating a print-ready file.
Once the document is ready, you can begin creating your honey labels in our configurator. Simply specify each parameter related to the printing based on your label design:
- Format: rectangular, circular, oval, custom, front-back.
- Dimensions: width and height expressed in mm.
- Material: you can also review information about materials without leaving your configuration.
- Application: by hand or with a label applicator.
- Finish: varnishing or lamination, standard hot stamping, 3D foil (cast), 3D screen printing, internal element removal, die-cutting.
- Quantity: you can also configure and submit multiple graphic variants of the label.

How to create labels for multiple types of honey?
If you produce multiple varieties of honey, such as acacia honey, chestnut honey, wildflower honey, or other types, and need to print individual labels, you can use graphic variants. This option allows you to maintain visual consistency across labels while adjusting the specifications for each type of honey, such as flavour and ingredients. This parameter enables you to have multiple versions of the same label differing only in design.
Therefore, you can create a label for each honey flavour and configure them all together in a single order. For example, if you need to print 1000 labels for wildflower honey, 2000 for chestnut honey, and 1500 for acacia honey, differing only in design, you will need to:
- Specify the number of variants;
- Provide a name and quantity for each variant.
This option not only allows you to quickly configure multiple labels for different honey types but also helps reduce costs as the final quote will be calculated based on the total number of labels.
